NDA eLearning Project

What is the NDA eLearning project?

The NDA is developing an eLearning module to provide basic Disability Equality training to public sector staff in Ireland.

When will it be available?

The training module is available now at eLearning Centre

Please contact us at 01 608 0405 or admin@training.nda.ie to discuss how you can use this training in your organisation.

What does the training cover?

The training content includes an overview of disability in Ireland, including statistics and relevant legislation. The training shows some of the barriers faced by customers with disabilities and explains how good customer service can get over these barriers. Trainees learn how to engage with a person with a disability in a customer services setting.

What is eLearning?

eLearning is a general term that covers training delivered with the assistance of a computer (source: ICTessentials.com). This interactive eLearning module will consist of text, video clips and self-assessment questions. The trainee can step through each part of the module at their own pace. The self-assessment questions will help the trainee to review their progress.

How is the training delivered?

The eLearning module is available over the Internet, or via a CD. It is designed to run on its own, without a trainer present. It will take about one hour to complete the training. There will be a hardcopy workbook for anyone who cannot use a computer or has no access to a computer.

Who is the target audience?

The target audience is staff at all levels within the public sector in Ireland. This would include Government departments, local authority staff, public health services staff and staff of state agencies and commercial bodies.

What is not covered in the training?

The training will help all public sector staff to think creatively about how best to serve customers with disabilities, but it will not be possible to go into the details what might be required in particular situations, such as a school classroom, a forest path or a hospital ward in this general training.

How will it be made available?

The training module will be provided in partnership with the HR or Training sections of Irish public bodies. There will no charge to the individual or the organisation for taking the training.

Will I get a certificate?

Trainees can print their own certificate after finishing all parts of the eLearning module successfully.

Will the training module be accessible for users with disabilities?

Accessibility for users with disabilities was one of the key criteria used in selecting the developers for this tool. The module will be developed with accessibility in mind from the outset. It will comply with all WAI WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines, and with many WAI WCAG 2.0 AAA guidelines.
