Policy and Research

The National Disability Authority’s Policy and Research department

  • Undertakes and commissions research in relation to disability, in particular to guide and underpin policy and practice
  • Develops and co-ordinates policy advice to Ministers, government departments and public bodies in relation to disability

Our policy advice spans the range of areas covered in the National Disability Strategy and in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including disability services and supports, employment, transport, social welfare, housing, health, the justice system, independent living and social inclusion. Our policy advice is underpinned by research evidence and by consultation with people with disabilities and their organisations on lived experience.

The National Disability Authority operated a PhD scholarship scheme up to 2005. This scheme is now discontinued.
